What is good for the goose, is good for the gander…. right? So being mammals as humans AND dogs are, I think that what is good for one, is good for another one. OK. this is NOT always the case. Dogs can NOT eat raisins, chew sugarless gum, …. you get the point. But, why can’t we use essential oils to help heal our fur babies? OF COURSE WE CAN!
I haven’t posted in a while, because besides becoming a new grandma (he can call me Nana,) I have been doing a lot of research: talking to vets, reading, and asking some reputable dog breeders, as well as using my own dogs as “guinea pigs.” No insult intended… to either actual guinea pigs nor my fur babies.
I ordered the equivalent to the Physician’s Desk Reference for animals using essential oils. I have read up on each and every essential oil I can find. I have looked at herbs, tinctures, and other home remedies. Tinctures take a LONG time to even make, and I have some brewing as we speak. (It has to sit in the dark for a couple of month, it doesn’t actually “brew.”)
So, the answer is a resounding YES, and here are some reasons to try them.
1. It can save on vet bills. Things such as ear problems, cuts, digestion problems, etc can be treated with essential oils in SOME CASES. Thus, saving a trip to the vet.
2. Essential Oils are made with natural ingredients, so you know what you are giving to your pets.
3. They are easy to get, easy to store, and easy to use. (More on that in a later post)
4. Some actually PREVENT problems, thus saving you money and your beloved pet a lot of suffering.
So, with that said… I will follow up later with some recipes and such. My research continues!
